Wing Solar

Origis Energy

In 2020, Origis Energy and PowerSouth announced a power purchase agreement for an 80-megawatt solar project to be constructed in Covington County, Alabama. The 986-acre solar facility consists of 238,236 solar panels and utilizes single-axis tracking technology. As the civil engineering consultant for the project’s development team, CDG provided site design and permitting, surveying, and geotechnical services.

CDG’s geomatics team completed the project site’s boundary, topographic and ALTA surveys. Using Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR), CDG determined the property’s above and underground land features, including utilities. The data collected assisted with developing the site’s preliminary design and permitting for the project, including the site layout plan, stormwater features, control ponds and run-off control.

The firm’s geotechnical design team provided a myriad of in-house services, including site reconnaissance, boring layouts, lab services and reporting. Using an all-terrain drill rig, CDG’s field team performed subsurface exploration to collect soil samples for testing and ensure enough quality material for construction.

Today, Wing Solar provides enough clean energy to power more than 17,000 homes annually.
