Wastewater Treatment Lagoon Upgrades

City of Tallasee, AL

The City of Tallassee’s existing 1.4 MGD wastewater lagoon treatment system was consistently unable to meet regulatory demands and was placed under a Consent Order. An alternatives analysis was completed to evaluate potential upgrades to the existing lagoons or benefits of building a new mechanical treatment facility. Based upon this analysis and the desires of the City, it was initially determined to move forward with construction of a multi-channel reactor treatment facility to meet regulatory limits and the upcoming demands of expected industry growth. Following in-depth stakeholder discussions and a change in anticipated industry growth, City leadership elected to complete upgrades to the existing lagoons to meet regulatory limits.

Upgrades included installation of new aeration equipment, a packaged lift station, a floating baffle system, upgraded chlorine and sulfur dioxide gas equipment, a septage receiving station, and associated site piping and electrical improvements. Improvements to the collection system included the rehabilitation of 9,200 linear feet of sanitary sewer piping and the connected manholes to reduce inflow and infiltration. CDG assisted with funding procurement assistance, permitting services, design, bidding services, and construction administration for the project.
