06 May CDG participates in Third Annual sMiles for Megan 5K
Five CDG employees were part of more than 300 runners and walkers who participated in the third annual sMiles for Megan 5K and Fun Run in Downtown Andalusia on May 6, 2017.
The annual event is hosted by the Megan Kelley Smiles Foundation in memory of Megan Kelley, an Andalusia teen who lost her battle with leukemia in 2015.
“Smiles for Megan is held in honor of Megan, who battled cancer for almost two years,” Donna Kelley, Megan’s mother, said. “During that time, her smile and positive attitude helped bring the message of Christ to others.”
The event is part of an effort by the foundation to carry out Megan’s vision of helping others.
“I knew Megan’s heart was heavy for her neighbors and fellow fighters,” Kelley said. “Still, I was shocked when, after she passed, I discovered a note on her iPad with highly-detailed plans for the ‘Megan Kelley Cancer Center.’ My child wanted to build a hospital of her own that would perfectly meet all the needs of patients, which she knew very well from her own experiences. I was blown away by her dedication and sincere desire to help others.”
Proceeds from the event assist local cancer patients between the ages of 19 and 25.
