01 May CDG breaks into Engineering News-Record 2019 Top 500 Design Firms list
For the first time in company history, CDG Engineers & Associates, Inc. was recognized by Engineering News-Record as one of the country’s leading design firms. The magazine’s annual Top 500 Design Firms list ranks companies according to revenue for design services performed in the previous year.
Earning spot No. 492, CDG is one of six Alabama-based firms to make this year’s list. The national list of top design firms includes architects and engineers.
CDG President & CEO Mark Pugh said the ranking marks a significant milestone in the company’s 72-year history.
“This achievement distinguishes us as one of the largest, most successful consulting firms in the country,” Pugh said. “This sets us apart as one of the premier firms serving businesses and communities in the Southeast.”
CDG’s largest contract awarded in 2018 was for the site development of a greenfield sawmill in Troy, Ala. The engineering firm assisted Rex Lumber in selecting a nearly 300-acre site for a sawmill capable of producing a minimum of 240 million board feet annually.
CDG performed surveying, soil testing, site design and environmental permitting to prepare for the construction of the sawmill facility which created more than 110 jobs.
“The Rex Lumber Troy Sawmill project was meaningful for us because it allowed so many of our team members to work on a single project that had such a significant economic and community impact to the area,” Pugh said.
Another noteworthy project awarded in 2018 was the Iron Mountain Road extension in Anniston, Ala. The project was a public-private partnership between the Calhoun County Commission, the McClellan Development Authority and the Alabama Department of Transportation to extend a roadway on the U.S Army’s former Fort McClellan campus.
CDG assisted in acquiring nearly $5 million from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program to help fund the roadway improvements.
These momentous projects contributed to a standout year for the engineering firm.
“2018 was the most profitable year in our company history because we worked together as one team on a mission to help people build their future,” Pugh said. “As the pages of progress are being written, we are honored to be able to leave our mark.”
