US Highway 84 Widening Project

Synopsis:
Soil-cement was selected
for use as base material when US Highway 84 was widened in
Covington County, Alabama. The use of soil-cement base
provided the ALDOT with a significant reduction in the
construction cost over a conventional, crushed aggregate
base. The soil-cement mixture was designed by CDG in
accordance with ALDOT standards using a locally available,
coarse-grained soil. In addition to conducting the
laboratory mix design, CDG
performed
compression testing, density testing, and aggregate
acceptance testing during construction.
