John H. Witherington Drive and Trojan Parkway Construction

City of Troy, Alabama

Since the Troy Sportsplex first opened in 1991, the City of Troy has wanted to build a road connecting the recreational facilities to U.S. Highway 231 and open up the last undeveloped area of Troy for economic development. The project proved to be as challenging as anticipated because much of the land area was wetlands, but CDG worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to obtain wetland permitting so the project could move forward. The $7.78 million project included installing four precast bridges totaling 200 linear feet and grade, drain, base and paving for nearly 2.5 miles of roadway. CDG coordinated with the Alabama Department of Transportation to acquire applicable permits for turn lane additions and traffic signal upgrades where the road network met Highway 231. Not only is the new roadway convenient for motorists, but the addition of pedestrian bridges, walking trails and lighting makes the development bike- and pedestrian-friendly as well.
