History

CDG Engineers & Associates was founded in 1946 in Andalusia, Alabama as McDonald & Hooper Engineers. The founders, Mr. W.B. McDonald and Mr. M.S. Hooper, were graduates of Alabama Polytechnic Institute before it became Auburn University. These first generation owners, like CDG today, set out to provide the progressive engineering services that would build the infrastructure across south central Alabama. These early engineers built many of the utility systems, road networks and highways that still serve today’s busy population.

The late Ray Bass, ALDOT Highway Director for several administrations, often told the story about our founder W.B. McDonald that following World War II, “Mac was appointed the highway director of Italy, reconstructing all the roads that led to Rome! That is quite an honor!”

Since those days, our company has grown to serve clients across the southeast United States. The third generation of stockholders now owns the company but we hold closely to our heritage of working with government entities and private developers to stay ahead of future needs of the people we serve.
